Although Richard Lucas was called to missions at about age six and to Japan at about age twelve, it was another twenty years before he and his wife Jean arrived in Japan. Originally sent to build churches reaching American military personnel, their work since 1993 has focused primarily on evangelizing the Japanese. Since 1997 Richard has served as superintendent of the UPC of Japan (UPCJ) and is leading a growing work. In 1997 there were seventy-three UPCJ constituents; there are now 482. Their ministry includes soul winning, pastoring, leadership training, writing and leading a team translating materials for evangelism and training.
